How are orchid seeds propagated? We learned all about it with a hands-on demonstration of the sterile-environment sowing of orchid seeds! Jim Longwell brought his Laminar Flow cabinet, a Sterile-Environment Hood, and demonstrated how to clean, open, and remove seeds from an orchid seed pod, and scatter the microscopic seeds onto the sterile media in prepared dishes. Then, in groups, we unflasked several flasks with tiny baby orchids and arranged them on trays, and also potted up small seedlings into 2’ pots – three important steps of orchid propagation!
